Republican Party endorses Ken Rice for City Council

by Uncle Abe on March 4, 2010

By an overwhelming vote of 33-to-3 with 3 abstentions, the Brooklyn Republican Party voted tonight to endorse attorney Ken Rice for City Council in the March 23rd Special Election in the 44th District.

Rice, a resident of Midwood, works for the NYPD, and is making his first bid for public office.

“I’m excited and honored to be endorsed by the Republican Party,” said Rice, “and I will run an aggressive, issues-oriented campaign that focuses on creating jobs, keeping our neighbors safe, and getting city government off the backs of local residents and small business owners.”

Rice noted that he rides the subway daily to work and added, “It’s time we reformed the MTA and made sure that riders are better served by NYC trains and buses.”

Local GOP leaders expressed excitement over Rice’s candidacy, saying “Ken is the kind of Republican who can bring people together. He wants to build the GOP, not tear it apart.”

Political observers were impressed with Rice’s petition effort, which took place during the city’s heaviest snowfall in a generation. While other candidates limped out of the petition process, Rice put together an effective volunteer effort with friends, family and a few local Republican activists.

The 44th Council District covers the neighborhoods of Borough Park, Gravesend, Kensington and Midwood.

Ken’s endorsement is a great day for the Brooklyn GOP.

At least now we have a Republican running who wants to work with people to get things done.
